That cell phone in your pocket emits more radiation than a smart meter does. Do you realize that more accurately billing people is part of releasing ratepayers of the burden of unbilled kilowatts? I wasn't going to post, but the editorialing nature of the "news" post begs rebuttal. Utilities like pg&e do realize a benefit from being a monopoly, no doubt. Smart meters have problems, no doubt. None of their problems are stated here, only incorrect conjecture. Local government's pandering to constituents and litigation is the reason everything is so damn expensive in this state. I'll tell you a secret too. Big corporations LOVE regulations. They may oppose one here or there, but the more regs we pass, the less chance we give new companies to enter the market, thereby ensuring monopolies grow. Ok. Stepping off the soapbox. Very poor reporting, full of slanted factoids that undermine honest discussion.

Dude, I don't disagree with a lot of what you say...but authority over PG&E rests solely with the CPUC. Not with any city or county government or agency. If you want options with them crack down on the PUC
