His boycotts, strikes and fasts won better pay and working conditions for 50,000 American farm workers in California and Florida. He was totally against illegal aliens taking jobs from American farm workers to the extent that he sent his brother and union members to the border to prevent illegal aliens from crossing over. He instructed his members to report illegals to authorities. Agricorporations fond ways to nullify contracts he had won and membership in the UFW shrank to 15,000 by the 1980s. In 1986 Reagan passed the amnesty that opened the floodgates for the millions of illegal aliens that have now invaded our country. Even at that, only 5% or less of all illegal aliens work in farm jobs. The rest commit felonies to work in construction, hospitality, landscaping, meat rendering plants, manufacturing, food services at low wages that have lost American workers millions of jobs. Unemployment for American workers has been over 9% for years, poverty for Americans is now a record 46 million and one of every five American children live in poverty and many go hungry. Millions of lawbreaking illegal aliens have had a very adverse affect on American workers and their families.

]]> By: Michael Nahra http://www.cityonahillpress.com/2011/10/27/the-fallacy-of-the-illegal-immigration-problem/comment-page-1/#comment-528 Michael Nahra Thu, 27 Oct 2011 21:54:00 +0000 http://www.cityonahillpress.com/?p=19527#comment-528 Here is the fallacy in this article.  The issue is not about undocumented immigrants (oxymoron) but illegal aliens.  It is a violation of US federal law to be in this country illegally.  They are not legal workers and need to leave the country which is what the state law has successfully done on a small scale.  What has caused this issue is the lack of total enforcement of the law.  If you punish both the worker by deportation, and the employer by fines and imprisonment, you will quickly see the numbers of illegal aliens decrease and legal immigrants and laborers increase.  This nation is a republic based on laws, and when the laws are not enforced, it weakens the nation.  There are 2 solutions to this issue.  Either repeal the law or enforce the law.  Half measure will only make the problem worse which was proven by the large increase of illegal aliens since the last amnesty was granted.

]]> By: Anonymous http://www.cityonahillpress.com/2011/10/27/the-fallacy-of-the-illegal-immigration-problem/comment-page-1/#comment-526 Anonymous Thu, 27 Oct 2011 16:37:00 +0000 http://www.cityonahillpress.com/?p=19527#comment-526 My main issue with uncontrolled immigration is the reality that the U.S. cannot cope with unrestrained population growth.  Our institutions (roads, schools, health care, justice system, etc.) are not providing needed services to legal residents.  I did a quick calculation: without illegal immigration, our population doubles about every 75 years.  Adding in historical illegal immigration rates (and frequent higher reproduction rates of illegal immigrant groups), and our population doubles in about 40 years.  Imagine the U.S. with a population of 600+ million in the lifetime of current college students.  It is not a pretty thought.  All other concerns pale before this reality.
