The opening of 28 new work/show studios at Santa Cruz’s Tannery aims to make the Art’s Center more of a public space. On friday, there will be a grand opening reception from 4:30 p.m.-midnight.
The Tannery Arts Center opened to low-income residents just under two years ago. At its maximum capacity of 260 residents, there’s very little space for those on the wait list to move in. What’s more, the wait list has recently closed. While the Tannery Center is a specialized project, it is evident that this situation is not a unique one across the city.
