
At Game Jam 2011, 13 teams of UCSC students competed with developers from around the world to create the best game in 48 hours. The event took place at the end of last month and led to a wide range of creations, which included platform games, scrolling shooters and a traditional card game.

The goal of the Everyday Hero Bike Ride, sponsored by UCSC Transportation and Parking Services, was to educate cyclists about rain gear and encourage students to bike safely in all types of weather. The event was supposed to be held on the rainiest day of the year, but the best laid plans will go awry sometimes, and this year the sun won.

As unemployment rises and locals continue to struggle financially, prom season becomes a luxury outside many students’ budget. To lessen the costs, local businesses and organizations work collaboratively to help collect and distribute free prom dresses to high schoolers through Santa Cruz’s third annual prom dress drive.

Question: What is your favorite sex position? Why?

UCSC astronomers have recently discovered the farthest recorded galaxy. The Hubble Space Telescope aided in this new discovery by capturing the largest and deepest picture ever taken of the universe.

Student regent-designate Alfredo Mireles Jr. stopped by UC Santa Cruz on Tuesday, where he met with students to talk about his experiences as a student regent and encourage interested students to apply. No UCSC student has taken up the post since it was created in 1975.
