Film Festival Showcases Individual Artistry
The Santa Cruz Film Festival, which celebrated its 12th year last week, brought together the entire Santa Cruz community through appreciation of film arts. The Del Mar Theatre, the Rio Theatre, the Pacific Arts Complex and the Santa Cruz Roller Palladium showcased independent films from Nov. 7-10, ranging from queer-based shorts to documentary features on the environmental politics behind guitar-making.
When Different Dances Collide
UC Santa Cruz’s Barn Theater was packed last weekend with families, friends and students joining together to support and cheer on the dancers of “Dance Collisions.” Extra chairs were set up for those who couldn’t find a seat, and latecomers had to be turned away at the door due to lack of seating. This was during one of the three shows the performance held over the weekend.
Season of Love Starts Early
UC Santa Cruz’s theater department peeks into one of history’s many overlooked love stories in its upcoming November theater performance.
“Mughal Miniatures: Tales of Love” shows Nov. 8-17 on the Second Stage of the Theater Arts Center. The performance will consist of three short play, or love stories, originating from Iran and the Indian subcontinent.
