Rage Against the War Machine
A group of protesters has been gathering in downtown Santa Cruz to voice their opposition to the U.S. drone policy. Their efforts are paralleled by likeminded protesters across the country, as U.S. drone strikes abroad come under increasing fire from antiwar and human rights activists.
From Forest to Ice
For five fast-paced days, graduate students and professors conducted research in the deep-field of Antarctica. While cold winds swept over them, on-site researchers drew samples from a lake buried 800 meters beneath the ice. This research is the culmination of four years of work by students, faculty and staff working in the icy barrens of Antarctica and the wooded hills of UC Santa Cruz.
In Pursuit of Universal Education
In order to apply for a “Hispanic-Serving Institution” designation, UCSC is required to meet specific targets in terms of the diversity of its student-body. As the university’s outreach programs aim to recruit underrepresented students, an era of persistent state budget cuts for the UC make it difficult for UCSC to finance its efforts.
